Spoon City Club's first Luncheon

Spoon City Club is gathering momentum and profile, amongst some of London's best. Why not come and hear about the Children's Charity of Rugby and the difference we make to disadvantaged children in the UK as well as enhancing your business contacts at the same time.

As we are all aware the world is changing at such a pace that time is of the essence for so many busy people today. It is so often not what you know but who you know and really difficult to put a real value of the cost of time to networking but by supporting a tangible figure and joining Spoon City Club, you are buying into the common goal of supporting a great charity, and meeting quality contacts - who like you are all looking to derive quality business and superior results.

Come and experience the Spoon City Club's first Luncheon on 18th October at the prestigious Salters' Hall location where, not only will you meet many captains of industry but there will be some of the good and the great from the Rugby World in attendance too.

It is set to be a great lunch and an opportunity to find out how to become a part of this exciting and fast growing Club in London. It's great value at £50 per head for a very special lunch.

Please RSVP to Ren Dutta on rdutta@woodenspoon.com and book your table.

Whether you are already a Spoon City Club member or not, why not bring some clients, colleagues or friends along to see for yourself the power of networking with the Wooden Spoon.

It is set to be the most talked about networking opportunity.

New Members.

Great news! As last month we have 40 new Members join up. We extend a very warm welcome to all of you and hope that by now you have received your letter from Jason and you're very smart (!) Spoon tie and our latest edition of SpooNews. We really look forward to seeing you at some of our future events. If in the meantime, if any of you are interested in becoming more involved with Spoon and the City Club, either on one of the four events committees or at a management level, we would be delighted to hear from you and please do feel free to contact me either on shaworth@woodenspoon.com or Ren Dutta, City Club Programme Executive at the office on 01276 410180. Please do encourage your friends, colleagues and clients to join us too.

We have also established a LinkedIn for City Club Members. To join the group, click here.

The management committee has been working hard to encourage recruitment on our two main events for this year. We propose to hold a series of smaller events in the early autumn to be used for recruitment purposes and once these are confirmed they will be posted on the website. In the meantime we have our two main fundraising events for 2010 well under way.

Le Moulin Rouge - Friday 19th November, The Hilton Park Lane

Our Annual Ball is possibly one of the most talked about and attended events of its kind, comfortably accommodating not only private but also corporate entertaining, with many companies using the night as their Christmas bash. This year promises to be c'est bon with a spectacular array of entertainment to ensure it is as stunning as ever. After all how could it not be with the theme of Le Moulin Rouge - Oh la la!

Upon arrival, our guests will enjoy a champagne reception followed by a succulent four course dinner prepared by the Hilton's award winning chef Anthony Marshall and his extremely talented team. Throughout the course of the evening, guests will be delighted and wowed by some of the most sizzling and glittering entertainment encapsulating that evocative Parisian theme.

Our raffle really is le meilleur du meilleur and offers the chance to win some of the most incredible prizes including a brand new car. There are also magnificent items to bid for both in the silent and main auctions and of course the night would not be complete without the "Cuddlies" to take home for your loved ones in the Spoon Teddy Tombola! An English breakfast is served in the early hours to ensure that you maintain your energy levels to dance the night away until we sadly say au revoir for another year. It really is the joie de la vie to know that whilst you party away you will be putting smiles on the faces of the many disadvantaged children and young people that Spoon supports in so many different ways. Over the years, the Annual Ball has produced in excess of £3.5 million - a truly spectacular effort. Please may we ask you to support this most valuable fundraising event of the year and further to help us with the incredible legacy that is Wooden Spoon.
For further information and a booking form, Please contact Ren Dutta at rdutta@woodenspoon.com

We are still in need of 35 more tables so please may we make an appeal to ask if at all possible you could lend your support in some way for this event. There are a number of ways you can help us either by taking a table, and or a page of advertising in the brochure, one of the sponsorship packages or a donation of an auction lot. Over the years the Annual Ball has been our major fund raiser and has produced in excess of £3.5million. This has enabled us to put smiles on the faces of thousands of disadvantaged young people and children throughout the UK and Ireland. Leadership Lunch, Investec Offices

Choosing and leading a team of talented individuals was the subject of a lively lunchtime debate held at Investec's London offices on 29 April. This was attended by over 40 Spoon Ambassadors hungry for insight into the winning ways of Sir Clive Woodward, former Head Coach of the England Rugby World Cup Winning squad and British Olympic Association's Director of Elite Performance, Peter Damesick, Executive Director and Head of UK Research with CB Richard Ellis, the world's largest real estate services firm and Paul Stevens, a banker at Investec Group with over 30 years experience in successfully managing risk in the real estates market.

"Wooden Spoon has been supporting disadvantaged kids for many years and I am delighted to help out where I can. I very much enjoyed speaking at the Leadership Lunch as it gave me an opportunity to meet up with old friends and rub shoulders with like minded business people who are keen to help Spoon." Sir Clive Woodward OBE, Olympic Performance Director.

Although all three speakers come from disparate industry backgrounds each agreed that a key role in being a good leader is the ability to build a winning team. Sir Clive recounted his experiences on assembling the England Rugby World Cup squad, raw talent was not good enough to get in the team, an individual had to have a willingness to learn, the ability to think clearly under pressure and above all have the right attitude. After many more insightful anecdotes from our speakers our ambassadors dispersed, suitably replete and digesting the input from a very informed debate on the subject of leadership.

"Investec Specialist Private Bank was delighted to sponsor this event as part of our sponsorship of the Wooden Spoon Ambassador Programme and to have someone of Clive's stature as a speaker at the leadership lunch. Strong and effective leadership is critical as we navigate our way out of the current turbulent economic times and a panel discussion on leadership was perfectly timed and insightful. Investec Specialist Private Bank is committed to supporting Wooden Spoon in their work with disadvantaged young people." Wayne Preston, Head of Investec Private Bank.
